30 Week Blog Challenge: Week 12: Something I Bought Recently

This week's challenge is to write about something I bought recently.  Um....this is a true challenge because I haven't bought anything lately but your usual boring stuff like coffee and trail mix from the gas station, personal items, and food.  I haven't been shopping
a while.

A month ago, I purchased Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins and All I Need by Susane Colasanti from Barnes & Noble.  Over the weekend, my mom bought me a pair of Coach sneakers.  (I know, I know I am suppose to be talking about things I bought).

I recently downloaded some songs from iTunes.  I purchased the following songs:

  • Funky Beat by Whodini
  • Escape (I Need A Break) by Whodini
  • Rock It by Herbie Hancock
Other than that, I haven't bought anything extraordinary.  If I go shopping this weekend, I will post an update. I wanted this post to be interesting.  Maybe to some readers it will be.

The Friday Round Up: Ramblings

This is one of the reasons why I love fall-the colors of the leaves.  However, in my neck of the woods, I have not seen a lot of these vibrant colors.  I saw this picture online, and I thought I would save it.

It has been a nice quiet week for me. I have been drinking coffee a lot more this week.  I'm a seasonal coffee drinker.  Which means that I drink more coffee when it is cold outside or when I have to get up extremely early and need a boost to wake me up.  Today, when I bought coffee from the gas station, I didn't see punkin spice.  I know that it is a seasonal thing, and maybe it was so popular, they ran out.

In writing news, I decided to start applying for article and blog writing jobs instead of data entry.  I thought data entry would be relatively easy, however when someone responds they want me to type word images. (I personally do not like those things).  I have been wandering around the Internet looking for writing work. When I Google "best writing sites for writers to make money" or something similar, I get a list of places I   have applied or already wrote for.

Back in the summer, I applied for a few sites including All Writing.  I finally received an email yesterday. Unfortunately, it was a rejection.  Rejection letters no longer bother me. I just read them and file them away.
Rejection is the name of the game.

I have also been checking in at Smashwoords to see how my short stories are doing.  Since I stopped offering them for free, no one has been downloading them despite offering them for cheap-0.99-$1.99. Maybe I should just make them free again.

Next Friday is Black Friday, and personally it is not something I get too excited about. There is nothing exciting about pushing and shoving to get something, being in tight spaces, and the possibility of being trampled.  One time, I was trying to navigate through Wal-Mart.  It was so bad, I had to go to the grocery section for relief.  In this case, I would rather shop online.

Have a good weekend everyone.

30 Week Blog Challenge: Week 11-Nicknames You Have and Why

This week's topic is to write about nicknames.  Oh really?  Let's see.......

Over the years, I have been called all sorts of names. There have always been variations of my name: Trish, Trisha, Tresha, Latrisha, etc.  What gets me is that even on my prescriptions my name gets spelled wrong.

When I was little, my parents use to call me Precious.  Also, my grandparents use to call me Trisha Anne.  A few other relatives would call me Trisha Baby.  Then my uncle still calls me Patti Patti.  I don't  know how all of this got started.  I was listening to an Alexander O'Neal song one day and he was singing about a girl named Patti Patti. (I know younger readers are saying who or what). Just look him up on your favorite music service). Okay, so maybe that's where that came  from.

When I got to high school, people had fun with my last name.  My last name is Byrd.  My freshman year, I owned a pair of yellow jeans.  And well, I got called Big Bird.  And....when birds would fly over the school, e.g. The bus stop.... people would make bird noises.

So there you have it...
.nicknames people use to call me.

Note: I wish that this was a more livelier post, but I am under the weather this week.

The Friday Round Up

Last weekend, I went to the gym with my brother.  I wasn't able to workout, although I should have been on a treadmill.  Anyway, I got bored even though I bought a book with me to keep me company. Since the gym was located in a shopping center, I decided to go for a walk.  I discovered a bookstore, but not just any bookstore, but a used book store.

The name of this amazing place is Mr. K's Used Books, Music, and More.  They sell books, CD's, and DVD's at half price.  Ronni from Anywhere Is writes about a store called Half Price Books in Illinois. Well, we don't have a Half Price Books here in the South, but I guess Mr. K's is close enough. Bookstores are a dangerous place for me. I didn't buy anything, but looked at a few books. I saw a dictionary for $3. You can sell and trade books, music, and movies.  I have a few books that I might sell or trade that I am not too fond of.

Buying books is somewhat of a luxury or special treat which happens at least twice a year.  If I had money to spare that day, I would have come out with some new books.

In other news, looks like winter is coming early.  We are having our first major cold snap of the season.  IT WAS COLD Tuesday night when I left the house. I had to bring out my boots and reach in the back of the closet to get my heavy wool coat.  But it is supposed to get back up to the 60's by the weekend.

These days, my time spent on the Internet has been spent previously.  I'm not too proud of that.  However, besides looking up new books to read, playing games, and checking my mail expecting something to be there, I have been in search of new places to write.

I found a site called iWriter. It is similar to Content Authorty and Textbroker.  So I will give it try. Also I decided to bid for more jobs on Odesk.  I thought that I was applying for a Word document formatting project, but the client wrote back and they want to me to do image typing,  (This is not what I applied for).  It feels like my so called writing careers are at a crossroads or even in a crisis.

I decided to revisit Suite101.com. I was a contributing  writer for them back in 2010-2011.  In November 2011, I lost my writing position.  For awhile, I continued to earn royalties until they revamped the site.  Now, if you want to join, all you have to do is sign up.  Easy, you just sign up and set up your account.  When I was working for them, you had to put in an application, and the application process was not easy. While it's nice to be back, it just feels........ different.

30 Week Blog Challenge-Week 10: A Photo of Yourself Taken Over 10 Years Ago

Last week, I took a break from the blog challenge to have time to search for pictures.  This week's challenge is to share a picture from over ten years ago.  This morning, I decided to edit this post, although eight people have viewed it.

I had a picture of myself from 2003-2004.  It was a very small picture. It was me in my early 20's. After high school, I put on a lot of weight. As I look back on that picture, I had to stop and think, was I that big.  I think that the challenge called for one photo, not multiples.  I will throw in a bonus one and take away the bad one.

This one is from around 1987 or 1988. I didn't see a date stamp on the back of the photo.  I was about four or five years old. I was standing in front of my mom's car.   I feel a bit self conscious about posting pictures especially online due to picture predators.  We no longer have the car or live in the neighborhood where the picture was taken. So I figured that in this case it should be okay. But you still have to be cautious.

Here's another one from 1996. I was 13 years old at Disney World with my little brother. He was three years old at the time.  Now he is a grown man in his 20's now. Where did the time go?

This was actually fun. My hair has changed through the years and I have lost and gained weight; but somehow I still look the same. I am still recognizable to most people.  As I look back the hair from when I was 10 to roughly 15, no wonder I got made fun of at time.

I Need Motivation

I am in serious need of motivation.  Lately, writing work has been scarce and it is getting worse.  I have been bidding for jobs on Odesk. I thought was getting data entry work but instead the client wanted me to sign up for ad clicking site.  Another client wanted me to type those "checking to see if you are human" images.  Y'all know what I am talking about.

I started writing for Examiner, and posted a total of six articles.  I haven't earned a lot from them. There is no work for me at Knoji. I remember about this time last year, I was busy typing away on my computer from morning to night working on product reviews.  This year, it is a different story. Today, I actually played Mall World.  That's got to change, stat!

I use to bring in roughly $100 a month. It didn't pay bills of course, but it helped with gas/transportation costs.  Now I can see why my writing career isn't always taken seriously. Content writing isn't always the way to go.  I know I need to pull myself together and attempt to rewrite my novel.  Again, I need motivation.  My short story collection over on Smashwords hasn't done so well in terms of sales.  When I offered them for free, downloads increased.  I'm a newbie and I understand that it is going to take a while to get noticed.  I'm a writer because I enjoy it, not to make money.  In reality, we need to make a living.

Yesterday, I went to the mall with some friends. I visited the Apple store and played around with the iPods, iPhones, and iMac.  I think Apple products are cool even though they are expensive.  I would love to own a new iPod, but the sticker price........I really need to be motivated to purchase a newer shinier version when I have a five year old iPod that works just fine.  I could use more storage.

I also went to Forever 21.  I shopped around for a bit, but I could ignore my aching feet because of my shoes.  (I should have packed flats).  My friends were surprised that I didn't buy anything.  For one thing my feet were killing me, so I just wanted to take my shoes off or sit down somewhere.  I saw a few cute things, but I put them back.  I also saw a handbag that looked sturdy and useful, but the thought came across my mine, "Is this bag going to peel and be tossed in the trash in six months?" That's why I stopped buying purses at Charlotte Russe or stayed away from cheap quality bags.

As my search for a day job continues, it is becoming increasingly discouraging.  Sometimes I feel like what is the point of going to the interview to get turned down in a few days.  I have sent out so many resumes and filled out hundreds of applications and getting nowhere.  I have expanded my search out of state.  The results are all the same.  I know I can't give up, and but sometimes I want to.

There you have it folks, I need motivation. Overall, I am a positive person and sometimes overly optimistic. However, human nature kicks in.
